Copyright Notice
I have to be very careful. I’m a writer, and as such my professional life revolves around creating something and then flogging the rights to use it to someone else. That person then becomes the copyright owner.
Actually, it’s a lot more complicated than that but the bottom line is basically twofold:
The Publisher’s Rights
I respect and acknowledge that the publisher (or whomever) has bought publication rights from me. By republishing material here I do not mean to demean or in any other way breach those rights but simply to have an open portfolio of work as is common practice.
I would like to remind all visitors to my portfolio that where there are screen shots or scanned images of articles, those (including the layout etc) are firmly the publisher’s copyright and I recognise this. Please do not make copies of these images.
If there is anything here which a publisher objects to, please get in touch ASAP and I will remove it without hesitation.
My Rights
It would be foolish (and tiresome) of me to list here which rights I have and have not sold on a particular piece of work. Suffice to say most I can republish here, but this does not indicate a rights release and nothing here is published under creative commons or any other form of public license.
I would never object to reasonable use of any of my material for non-commercial use, but I cannot guarantee that I hold the appropriate copyright for every single article here. So, best to check.
Legal Rubbish
One last thing needs to be borne in mind. I submit a manuscript to an editor … the editor pays me to publish that text, but they reserve the right to edit it on the way past. Plain text versions of articles are sometimes as submitted, not as published / edited.
At the time of writing no editor has ever told me that my original text was in any way libellous. If anyone believes it to be so I will happily withdraw publication on this website until the matter is resolved.
